Formal Italic—Calligraphy
Instructor: Patrick Lafferty
This class is for beginners and intermediate students. The Italic Hand, from
Renaissance times, is the style most associated with calligraphy. It is a beautiful
hand for sending correspondence to loved ones.
Patrick has over 40 years experience as a scribe and teacher. His instruction will
focus on principles that build a solid foundation in the art of writing. This will assist
students in further studies with or without a teacher. Left handed students are
encouraged.

Materials: It’s important to have good tools, quality pens and paper. John Neal
Books.com specializes in calligraphy supplies. Check out their web site. Questions
about supplies will be addressed in the first class and there will be ongoing
instruction about tools and materials throughout the course. A specific supply list
will be provided. Here is a basic list with estimated cost.
