Course Syllabus/ Description

In this class, you will learn the basic fundamentals that serve as building blocks to playing the harp including reading music, proper technique and position (muscle memory), as well as varied exercises. You will leave with the ability to do more than just pluck!

Hello! My name is Alana Johnson. I am a beginner harp instructor who has been playing the harp for 10+ years. The harp is an elegant and expressive instrument to play, and I hope to instill a deep appreciation for such an instrument in my students as well as help them to build the skills needed to create beautiful music on the harp. If you have the passion, commitment, and time, you are sure to succeed!

Laura Hiner

Instructor Bio

Native of Indiana, USA, currently in Ohio. Laura has been teaching music for over 40 years – Lever harp, fiddle and piano. She received her earlier training in classical piano at the Pike Conservatory of Music. She further trained in piano and operatic voice at the Van Pelt Academy of Music. Later, she trained in violin with Dr. Caroline Wendt in Indiana. She placed first in piano competitions at ages 13, 14 & 15.
 
She studied harp with renowned teachers, Sue Richards, Seumas Gagne and Corrina Hewat at Oberlin College of Fine Arts in Ohio. She was awarded a scholarship to attend the Scottish Harp Summer Program at Oberlin College, where she received Certification in the Scottish Harp tradition. Laura later placed first in Scottish Harp, Composition and Scots Gaelic Singing.  
Her work includes:

Piano Accompaniment to Cecceti Ballet Certification                   Costumer for classical ballet for dance schools, including the prestigious Jordan College of Fine Arts, Butler University, Indiana     Performer at Renaissance Re-Enactment

Laura currently provides online harp, piano and vocal concerts. She plays for weddings and themed events. Samples of her work may be found on YouTube and Instagram
 
CLASS: Lever Harp, Folk Harp, Celtic, Irish and Scottish Harp – all the same instrument
Learn to play in the aural tradition, learn by ear, and play from memory. Notated music is included
Lessons are purchased in packages of 3 to 4 classes Recommended class is one class per week.
Fees are due on the first lesson of each set
Fee per 30-minute lesson: $25
Scheduling Mondays and Tuesdays. Other days negotiable
