Watercolor Classes

Course Syllabus/ Description

This class is designed to give students a basic understanding of the important concepts related to watercolor painting. It will cover topics such as, equipment and materials, basic drawing techniques, the use of a sketchbook, mixing and applying washes, understanding colors and values, as well as basic design and composition.

Students will watch and ask questions as the instructor demonstrates various techniques and then they will be given time to practice those techniques. Students will be allowed to paint from their own photographs, or choose one from the instructor’s album.

We will make use of value studies, and focus a lot of attention on learning to see and paint the correct values of light and dark. Students will be given assignments to work on, and they will be able to communicate with the instructor throughout the duration of the course to get feedback.

This class is for beginners as well as advanced students.

Classes are held on Friday evenings 7-9 pm EST

Chris Buchholz

Instructor Bio
Chris Buchholz is an artist and Illustrator living in New Oxford, Pennsylvania. We worked for 12 years as an illustrator and animator, before he decided to move to the Dominican Republic to serve where the need was greater. There he met his wife Heydi, whole he pioneered with, and they now have a son named Hezekiah. Chris enjoys working in sketchbooks while on family trips, and he has filled many books with his paintings and drawings of everyday people, places, and things. He paints with watercolors almost every day in his small shed studio. In addition to painting, Chris enjoys making wooden toys and elaborate cardboard box play sets for Hezekiah. He also works as a digital illustrator and sells prints of his work.
